German Occult Manuscripts in Translation is een serie grimoires (magische instructieboeken) die ik vanuit het Duits, Latijn en Hebreeuws vertaal naar het Engels. Het gaat hierbij om grimoires en een enkele aan grimoire-thematiek verwante tekst, die nooit eerder in de Engelse taal zijn verschenen en dus nooit voor een niet-Duitstalig publiek toegankelijk waren. De manuscripten stammen uit de periode van de 15de, 16de, 17de en 18de eeuw. Veel bestaan alleen in het gotische schrift, hetgeen een extra uitdaging vormt.
De eerste twee werken zijn klaar en nummer drie is in de maak. In totaal zal de hele reeks waarschijnlijk sowieso 6 uitgaven tellen. Deze werken zijn een hele bijzondere aanvulling voor lezers geïnteresseerd in de microhistorische niche van de ontwikkeling van de Europese grimoires en westerse magie. Ook voor mijn cursisten, oud-cursisten en praktiserend magiërs zijn ze waardevol.
5 Early Grimoires of The Olympic Spirits is the first publication in the series German Occult Manuscripts in Translation. The Olympic Spirits, also known as ‘Olympick Spirits’ or ‘Olympian Spirits’, constitute a group of seven occult entities that dwell between the angelic and demonic realms. They are documented in various Renaissance and post-Renaissance works on ceremonial magic. Like the planetary angels, they are all linked to a specific planet.
This is the first book that compiles various 16th and 17th-century occult documents centered around the Olympic Spirits to provide a deeper understanding from a magical and historical point of view. Three German grimoires, one ‘Olympic’ chapter from the Faust grimoires, and one original Latin manuscript published in Prague, are offered to you in English translation – including editorial notes, an introduction, and a planetary hours appendix.

6 Early Grimoires of Magical Lore is the second publication in the series German Occult Manuscripts in Translation. This unique collection comprises mostly unknown grimoires from the16th and 17th century, now made accessible in English:
Semiphoras und Schemhamphoras Salomonis Regis (1686) (Semiphoras and Schemhamphoras of King Solomon) – A kabbalistic grimoire containing extensive information about angel hierarchies.
Specimen Magiae Alba, oder Rufung des Engels Gabrielis (republished 1846) (Specimen of White Magic or Invocation of the Angel Gabriel) – An old grimoire dedicated to evoking the Angel Gabriel.
Die Rufung des heiligen Christoph oder Das sogenannte Christopheles-Gebet (republished 1846) (The Invocation of Saint Christopher or The So-Called Christopher Prayer) – A money-magic grimoire.
De Septem Secundeis (A Little Book on the Seven Secundei) – Translated from the 1545 Latin original by Johannes Tritemius of Spanheim. This manuscript links planetary angels to epochs in history.
Wahrhafter Jesuiten-Höllenzwang (True Jesuit Hell-Compulsion) – Also a money-magic grimoire, ascribed to the Jesuits, but likely from the early 16th century. Republished in 1851 by Johann Scheible.
Doctor Faust’s großer und gewaltiger Meergeißt (Doctor Faust’s Great and Mighty Sea Spirit) – A notorious dangerous grimoire for obtaining great wealth, attributed to Faust, published in Amsterdam in 1692, in which Lucifer and three sea spirits are conjured to retrieve treasures from the waters.
